To insulate itself from the erratic trends in mobile business, Samsung Electronics said that it has plan to set up a auto component business unit with autonomous driving technology including satellite navigation and in-car entertainment systems.
This follows in line with latest trend of smartphone manufacturers to foray into rapidly growing auto electronic components market including software and services. According to Gartner estimates the global automotive semi-conductor market is said to grow to about $32 billion in 2016.
However, with various divisions in Samsung already involved in various life cycles of auto components manufacturing, it will be a lot of consolidation and re-orientation of its internal operations in the auto business that will give the company an edge in quality and timely delivery. The industry has already seen the arrival of Apple, LG and Google in the recent past.
