Bosch plans to expand its Abstatt location

Bosch is planning to further expand its development center in Abstatt near Stuttgart, and expects to invest some 70 million euros in the project. The location is home to Robert Bosch GmbH’s Chassis Systems Control division and the wholly owned Bosch subsidiary Bosch Engineering GmbH. “The number of associates working at Abstatt has grown continuously since the location was opened in 2004, and the existing buildings and parking spaces are no longer sufficient. Expansion of this location is a sign of how successfully our business is growing, and it is an investment in the location’s future,” says Gerhard Steiger, president of Chassis Systems Control and general manager in Abstatt. Temporary workspaces will be set up in shipping container buildings starting in August 2015, with the new buildings set to be completed by mid-2018. Additional parking will be built by mid-2016. Abstatt currently has a total of 3,400 associates from over 50 countries.

Bosch is planning to erect two new buildings as well as 1,300 additional parking spaces. The buildings will provide some 30,000 square meters of office space, meeting rooms, project areas, and another company restaurant. Work on the parking spaces is set to begin by the end of 2015, subject to planning permission from the Abstatt and Untergruppenbach local authorities. Construction on the buildings is set to begin in mid-2016. The Abstatt development center was opened in May 2004 following a three-year construction phase and has experienced continuous growth ever since. In 2009, Robert Bosch GmbH acquired 150,000 square meters of adjacent land from the Untergruppenbach local authority in order to secure space for future expansion. Until then the Abstatt location had covered some 300,000 square meters of land in the municipality of Abstatt.
